This 90-unit rental apartment complex aims to address the urgent need for good quality affordable housing for young families near Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby Mountain Campus. It is being designed to the Passive House Standard, targeting a 75 to 90% reduction in heating energy use compared to the minimum code requirements. Tandem is working closely with the architectural team at Local Practice Architecture and Design to provide Passive House expertise so that all design decisions are made with an understanding of their impact of energy performance. The end goal is to create a simple, elegant building that is durable, comfortable and affordable.
